ECU and engine tuning

Your ECU must have immobiliser removed and a suitable conversion tune loaded. The tune disables unused sensors and functions so the M57 runs happily in the Patrol without constant fault codes.

We can arrange ECU programming and tuning through a well‑known M57 specialist with a strong reputation in the scene, or we can work with your preferred tuner—just let us know what you’d like when you order.


TCM tuning – E70 6HP28x variant

For E70‑sourced 6HP28x autos, a proper TCM (transmission control module) tune is required to remove the immobiliser and make the most of the conversion. The factory calibration is designed for a BMW SUV with different ratios, tyres and load assumptions, so it doesn’t always behave perfectly once transplanted into a Patrol.

A conversion‑specific TCM tune typically:

  • Optimises shift points to suit Patrol diff ratios, tyre size and the way these vehicles are driven (towing, off‑road, touring).

  • Improves converter lock‑up strategy to reduce slip, lower transmission temps and make highway cruising feel more direct.

  • Adjusts line pressure and shift timing to sharpen shifts and help the box live longer behind a tuned M57.

  • Can remove or reduce “lazy” kick‑down behaviour and hunting between gears that some swaps experience on the stock E70 map.

If you choose for us to organise the tuning package, we can have your ECU and, where required, TCM calibrated so engine and gearbox will work as a matched package for the Patrol. 


It is highly recommended to get the CAN module and display as this will allow you to see on the display what gear you are in, as well as other valuable data from the ECU, IE Boost, Engine Temp, Trans Temp and Battery Voltage. the CAN Module also allows for multiple outputs including thermo fans, tacho, etc. 

NOTE : ECU Tune, TCM Tune, and wiring harness builds will equire you to send in your components and we will be in touch to make sure we receive what we require. Current lead time on ECU, TCM Tunes and Wiring Harness's are around 3-4 weeks.

NOTE : ONLY the X5 E70 Transmission computer (TCM) needs programing. All other models the transmission is controlled from the ECU. The biggest advantage to the X5 E70 variant with the programmed TCM is you will gain a fully functional Manual Mode.
