Genuine BMW preformed seal ring for intercooler and charge pipe joints
This is the genuine BMW preformed seal ring that seals the charge air hose connections at the intercooler inlet and outlet on turbocharged BMW engines. It is one of the most commonly overlooked parts in a boost leak diagnosis — and one of the cheapest to fix.
Why replace this seal
The FPM fluoroelastomer ring hardens and takes a permanent set after years of heat cycling and pressure. Once it stops sealing, pressurised charge air escapes downstream of the turbo. Common symptoms include:
- Loss of boost and flat, gutless power under load
- A whoosh, hiss or puffing noise from the intercooler piping when the engine loads up
- Overboost or underboost fault codes and limp mode
- Oily residue or grime tracking around the pipe joint
- A hard, flattened or cracked ring on removal
Replacement is strongly recommended any time the charge air tubing, intercooler or turbo piping is disturbed — including when fitting aftermarket charge pipes or couplings.
